Before and After: Sawgrass Village at Ponte Vedra Beach
We love a good before and after--and what better time of year to look back at the transformation of Sawgrass Village in Ponte Vedra Beach (just a stone's throw from The Players Championship which is happening this week!).
With the renovation envisioned to recreate the shopping center as the "Heart of Ponte Vedra Beach," we transformed the tired 1980's plaza into a dynamic shopping destination with world-class retail and restaurants, attracting locals and visitors alike.
Completed in 2016, Sawgrass Village’s redevelopment was driven by ELM’s vision through all stages—from planning, programming and design through construction documents and construction administration. The result is a pedestrian-rich retail, dining, social and civic amenity for the entire community to enjoy. The center’s location at the entrance to the Sawgrass Mariott resort and conference center and as the “Front Door” of the PGA Tour and The Stadium Course at TPC Sawgrass, has made it a must-see destination for visitors to Ponte Vedra Beach.
“In conjunction with a sophisticated development team, we crafted a master plan that thoughtfully connects every element, including boutique retail, restaurant, civic space, Publix, CVS, and all of the parking and infrastructure to support it,” said Russell Ervin, ELM principal and lead designer on the project.
“Carrying this project from its initial concept through all phases of design and construction has really allowed our planners, architects and designers to successfully tie in each component that makes Sawgrass Village a unique destination.”
As brick-and-mortar retail becomes more entertainment- and experience-driven, Sawgrass Village remains the retail, restaurant and civic centerpiece of this beach community. Now, we have to ask—which transformation is your favorite?
